The City of Miami Commission is about to cancel your right to vote in 2025.
On Thursday, June 26, 2025, they’ll vote on Agenda Item SR.1, an ordinance that would delay the next City election by a full year and extend the terms of the Mayor and Commissioners without voter approval.

That’s right: they’re trying to give themselves an extra year in office — without asking you.

❌ Why SR.1 is Dangerous:

  • It’s undemocratic. Elected officials were chosen to serve four-year terms. They do not have the authority to give themselves five.

  • It’s deceptive. Instead of putting the change to voters, the Commission is trying to rewrite the rules in their own favor.

  • It erodes trust. The public is already losing faith in local government. This will only make it worse.

✅ We Can Fix the Election Calendar — the Right Way:

Switching to even-year elections can make sense — if done legally and fairly.

  • Hold a referendum and let voters decide in 2025.

  • Shorten the next terms (e.g., 3 years instead of 4) to make the calendar align — without giving anyone extra time in power.
