We urge you to remove Rodney Barreto from the block vote on Tuesday, April 29th.

The Florida Senate must reject Rodney Barreto’s reappointment to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to protect the integrity of both the agency and the public trust. Barreto’s record is a glaring warning: he has used his position to advance development interests, shield political allies from accountability, and undermine science-based conservation policy. From attempting to develop protected marine habitat on Singer Island, to defending the mishandling of a fatal boat crash investigation, to promoting politically motivated wildlife policies at the expense of ecological science, Barreto has consistently put private interests ahead of Florida’s environment. His actions directly violate the Constitution of the State of Florida, which demands that public office be exercised as a public trust — not as a tool for personal or political gain.

Confirming Rodney Barreto would be a catastrophic mistake. It would send a clear and dangerous message that corruption, conflicts of interest, and disregard for Florida’s natural heritage will be tolerated at the highest levels of government. At a time when our ecosystems are collapsing, manatees are starving, and public trust in government is already fragile, the Senate has a solemn obligation to act. Anything less would be a betrayal of Florida’s Constitution, our environment, and future generations. The Senate must vote NO on Rodney Barreto’s confirmation — before even more irreversible damage is done.
